When it comes to clutch repair, ask any professional technician what they look for in a supplier. High quality, fast availability, and useful technical support invariably top the list.

It’s no wonder that technical support ranks so high. Just look at a few of the typical questions technicians encounter on a daily basis.

  • What’s the procedure for bleeding the clutch hydraulics on a 1990 Jeep Cherokee with an Aisin transmission?

  • How do I remove the snap ring from the release bearing in a 2004 Hyundai Elantra?

  • What’s the clamp load of the pressure plate that fits the latest 7.3L Ford Diesel?

  • Is the OE disc still available for a 1967 3.9L Toyota Landcruiser?

  • Are different release bearings used in a 1999 2.2L Isuzu Rodeo?

Now, imagine how motivated technicians would be to buy from a supplier that could provide solutions to these types of tough issues…

For AMS customers, solutions are reality! That’s because we’ve brought automotive information technology to a new level, by combining our years of applied technical expertise with the capabilities of the information superhighway. The innovative result is the IDD system.

What is IDD?

IDD (Identification by Design) is an exclusive AMS software program that provides accessible, accurate, and comprehensive clutch systems information.

The IDD databank is comprised of all relevant information pertaining to AMS clutch kits, hydraulics, and flywheels, which includes photos, specification data, technical information and specific trouble shooting analysis. This information can be used for a variety of purposes including product identification, inspection, and comparison, along with data confirmation, compatibility analysis, and reference storage.

Photos

These images are a useful confirmation source that aid in inspection and identification of components. The images can be magnified to better view product details. Up to three different image angles are available for each component.

Specification Data

Detailed data specific to the pressure plate assembly, disc assembly, release bearing, master cylinder, slave cylinder, and flywheel can be viewed and cross-referenced to aid in product identification, data confirmation, and compatibility analysis.

Technical Information

Bulletins pertaining to a specific kit are directly accessible using the electronic visual image link. Copies of any of the specific bulletins contained in actual kits are included. This information is tremendously useful for post-teardown analysis.

Trouble Shooting Analysis

AMS categorizes all warranty returns, by kit number, into one of several categories. Each category relates to a specific reason why the clutch may have failed (i.e. oil contamination). The information compiled in this detailed analysis is used as the basis of the trouble shooting analysis and relates to potential warranty causes specific to each kit.

What applications are included?

IDD references all clutch kits, master cylinders, slave cylinders, and flywheels supplied by AMS.

Where and how is IDD accessible?

IDD is located on the AMS website, and is available exclusively for AMS kit distributors and their customers. Each AMS distributor is assigned a user ID and a password that is required to access the IDD section of the website.

If you are an AMS kit distributor and would like access to IDD, or if you’ve forgotten your log-in information, please contact your Regional Sales Manager at AMS Sales Support. If you are the customer of an AMS distributor and would like access to IDD, or if you’ve forgotten your log-in information, please contact your distributor.

How does IDD operate?

IDD has been designed to be quick and simple to use. All clutch kit information can be accessed through a part number search or an application search. All hydraulic and flywheel information can be accessed via a part number search. Following are the basic instructions for finding information specific to a kit or an application:

  • Part number search - Click on “Kit Number”, “Hydraulic Number”, or “Flywheel Number” and then input the part number. Another option is to scroll through the list of part numbers and click on the desired number.

  • Application search - If the kit number is unknown, the IDD link to our electronic catalog can be used. Simply click on “Application” and input the necessary application information.

Once the correct part is found, all information will already be on the computer screen, or it will only be one click away.

  • To access the kit data sheet, technical bulletins or trouble shooting information, click on the respective titles located near the top of the computer screen.
  • To enlarge a component image, click on the image.
  • To access different angle images of a component, click on the various “View” numbers,, which are listed below the component image.
  • To access the specification data of a particular component, click on the descriptive title listed directly above the component image (i.e. Pressure Plate Assembly, Disc Assembly, Release Bearing, Master Cylinder, Slave Cylinder, or Flywheel).

Is additional assistance available?

While IDD isn’t intended as a replacement for the experience and knowledge of the AMS technical staff, it is a useful tool that works in conjunction with our business operating system. For further assistance, please contact AMS Technical Support.
